The Northeast Tacoma Neighborhood Council
(NETNC), a City-chartered, not-for-profit organization representing
the community of people who live, work in, or own a business in NE
Tacoma, has need of a graphic image that represents life in
NE Tacoma. We’d like to use consistent imagery to
“brand” NE Tacoma to its community:
·
On signs, such as “Welcome to
Northeast Tacoma” at the entryway thoroughfares, and the
neighborhood wayfinder signs showing directions to key area
destinations (pictures and description overleaf)
·
On banners we use at meetings and at
neighborhood events to highlight the Neighborhood Council’s
activity areas
·
On printed materials, such as the
NETNC newsletter, NET News, on a letterhead, card,
etc.
We’d very much like the talented student
artists at Meeker Middle School to design an image or images that
we could use for these purposes.
The logo
challenge:
Prepare an image or images that could be used to
represent or evoke life in NE Tacoma that we can reproduce in
either color or grey-scale in large or small format. This
challenge is a contest for up to three winners, with
prizes:
First
prize: [need
advice: desirable item worth about $200]
Second
prize: [need
advice: desirable item worth about $100]
Third
prize: [need
advice: desirable item worth about $50]
The contest will run until May ?15th,
2013. Judging by the NETNC Communications Strategies
Committee, with NETNC’s Chair participating ex-officio, will
be completed and winners confirmed at NETNC’s Board meeting
on June 20th.
Winners will be announced, participants listed,
and submissions shown in NET News and on our Facebook
page.
NETNC becomes the owner of submitted materials
and is free to use them for any lawful purpose, mostly for
identifying NE Tacoma and the NE Tacoma Neighborhood
Council.
Please take some time to harness your talent and
create fun, playful, even, compelling imagery to evoke the
neighborhood that you call home!

NE Tacoma
Signs:
Welcome to NE
Tacoma: These used to be at more locations on
thoroughfares entering the neighborhood area. They are mostly
gone, and NETNC has a grant to replace them and add some up to 8
total. The new signs should be roughly the same size (about
32”x32”), and have a welcoming message and use the
imagery resulting from the Logo Challenge. The picture below
is what the existing ones look like (there’s one on McMurray
Rd. headed up the hill from Marine View Dr. and one on
29th St. NE entering Tacoma from Federal Way). That
strange shape in black is an outline of NE Tacoma – we are
looking for something much cooler!
Neighborhood Wayfinder
Signs: These are recent additions to the
neighborhood. There are 8 in all, and 2 (or so) of them have
imagery on the top half-round shape. The existing imagery is
inappropriate – it looks more like downtown than NE
Tacoma. The half-round is 36” in diameter. Imagery
and perhaps some sort of “NE Tacoma Neighborhood”
lettering would be great. The picture shows what
one of the inappropriate signs looks like.
Ms. Kiesel would
like to congratulate these art students for receiving an honorable
mention in the federal duck stamp art
competition.
